Nilpeter shows cutting edge UV flexo and inkjet technology

With over 6,490 sq/feet (603 sq/meters) of space, Nilpeter will again mount one of the largest and most up to date displays at Labelexpo. Highlights of this year's label and packaging press lineup include the latest version of the FB UV flexo series, the world debut of the FG combination press, and the first showing in the USA of Caslon, a four-color inkjet module designed for industrial-strength reel-fed platforms.
New print units for FB-3300 UV flexo labels and packaging press
An eight-color FB-3300 in the FB-Line series of modular UV flexo presses will feature a new type of print unit designed to allow even faster adjustments and rapid anilox roll changes. These servo-driven presses have a maximum web width of 16.5 inches and produce PSAs and flexible packaging at a top speed of 750 ft/minute. The integral UV curing lamp units are fitted with integral water-cooled chill rollers to assist the converting of heat-sensitive materials. Options include screen process and hot-foil modules.
New FG-Line of UV flexo presses
Nilpeter will show a pre-production version of the FG-Line of combination presses, running with eight UV flexo units for producing film and paper PSA labels. This is a new concept based on the successful FA and FB series incorporating the best from both press lines. 'G' stands for 'Global', which means it incorporates features designed to give converters a competitive advantage anywhere in the world. It was designed from the start to use the latest light weight sleeve-plate technology, while the maximum width of 13.75 inches reflects a trend in PSA towards this material width.
North American debut for Caslon color inkjet printer
A year after its surprise introduction at Labelexpo in Brussels, Nilpeter displays the Caslon inkjet module for the first time in the Americas. It was designed and co-developed with FFEI, a UK-based software developer and systems integrator. The show version is mounted on a FA-4 with a maximum web width of 16.5 inches (420mm). It will run with two flexo print units: one for UV varnishing and the other for applying opaque white backgrounds for clear-on-clear film labeling. The platform also includes a rotary die cutting unit.
The print engine uses Xaar's 1001 drop-on-demand piezo printheads designed specifically for printing UV-curable CMYK ink sets for labels and packaging. The electronic systems controller allows users to print variable data printing on the fly, or print single copies of full-color labels on practically any material with highest print quality at a resolution of 720 x 360 dpi. Caslon offers eight grayscale levels and an optimum speed of 82 feet/minute (25.3 metres/min), with a 360 x 360 dpi resolution Nilpeter claims this makes Caslon one of the industry’s fastest inkjet printers of its type. The modules can also run with other web-fed printing and converting processes.
